Perched above Castle Creek and at the base of Shadow mountain, this site was perpetually in shadow and begged for a delicate landscape touch. Proposed throughout the site is an artistic display of metal fins that slice through the earth, creating terraces, gardens, and usable lawn space. The entry experience features a vertical and material threshold that repurposes a large boulder kept on site with a slice of metal appearing to cut through it. The back upper terrace features a patio-level fire feature with a metal panel displaying the outline of the river below. Helping to transition the challenging grade are a series of slices at the hillside garden and at the lower lawn – creating clear distinctions between the manmade and the natural.
