The Washington Avenue Corridor Study (WACS) aims to guide short- and long-term transportation improvements, focusing on safety, multimodal options, traffic flow, congestion reduction, and air quality. The study seeks to preserve the corridor's historic character while enhancing mobility for pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders, and drivers. With over 1,000 crashes in the past five years, safety is a top priority, particularly around limited pedestrian crossings and gaps in the bicycle network.

Lionheart’s contributions include public outreach, data evaluation, identifying mobility issues, and developing alternatives for improvement. A prioritized list of projects, an access management plan, and a digital workbook for the City of Houston are also being created. Recommendations will be made for updates to the Major Thoroughfare and Freeway Plan, along with design standards that will promote a safer, more connected corridor.
